It is convective rain whose amount can be huge or zero

We (meteorologists) use this symbol (an inverted triangle)
for convective precipitation.

On rain map,
the exclamation symbol
indicates freezing rain.

It seems more consistent as heavy convective rain (12 mm in one hour shown in purple ) does not lead to exclamation marks in Basic panel.
