      Hi,
      I really love Windy — it’s a great application!

      After the latest update (although it might have existed before), I’ve noticed that the rain forecast in radar view seems to be inaccurate under the current weather conditions.

      At the moment, the radar shows the rain moving in an arc:

      However, as soon as I switch to the forecast view, it moves straight in a completely different direction:

      Is this a known limitation of the forecast model, or could it be a bug?

      BTW: I’ve recorded a short screen video showing the movement, but I can’t attach it here.

        @wilow This radar "forecast" feature is only an extrapolation. It doesn't utilize model data. What you noticed here is the reason I dislike this feature and never use it :p
        Maybe one day they'll be able to somehow analyze more of the past radar data to help calculate where the pattern may travel into the future, but I wouldn't want them to also use guidance model data in combination with actual radar data...personally.

          @Wheats I understand this feature is based on extrapolation from existing data. However, my observation is that it might not be analyzing the correct data or there could be a bug. In this particular case, the wind forecast differed from the radar movement, and even the historical pattern seemed off.

          This is just a suggestion for the development team to review how the extrapolation is calculated — there might be some issues they are not yet aware of.

            @wilow
            I assume you're referring to surface wind forecasts, but the movement of rain clouds is determined by the wind aloft which is often different to the one at surface.
            The "future" radar movement is therefore probably not based on wind direction, but simply on an extrapolation of the direction of precipitation observed by the radar during the last few minutes to infer the movement during the next hour.
