Environment Canada provides astronomy forecasts https://weather.gc.ca/astro/index_e.html - I am not sure they do anything more than a North American model, or if anyone else provides anything similar. I use their cloudiness, transparency, and seeing forecast maps all the time through http://www.cleardarksky.com - Clear Dark Sky also models darkness relative to sunset/sunrise and moon brightness.

              Hi,

I've been using windy for a while to know where to go hiking, since the cloud/rain prediction allow me to estimate if a mountain is going to have nice weather or not.

That being said, I live in a region that gets aurora borealis during clear winter night. So I was woundering if there was any hope of seeing an aurora forecasting implementation in the future?

There are some resources that already do this such as the following webs sites:

              • http://www.aurora-service.eu/
              • https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/aurora-30-minute-forecast

I think this implementation would be an amazing addition to the windy toolbox.

That's exactly it. And also take into account location altitude and cloud cover

A little suggestion, there are Aurora ovals overlays available in different Aurora prediction applications for mobile devices.

It would be really cool and useful to introduce this overlay into the app. Since Aurora spotting is always related to the weather. Very handy to have both cloud cover and Aurora oval in the same app.

@skiterskiterio what a great idea! And maybe combining it with Northern Lights / Aurora borealis oval overlay?
                    👍

Predicting Aurora i think most Aurora Hunters know how to do and what it involves... there are plenty of tools on the web to predict.
What we need is an aurora oval overlay on a map, no matter the clouds. So we know more exactly where to go. This is an essential tool for Aurora spotting in northern Europe since the Aurora oval is not consistent and changes quite drastically dependent on the weather conditions in space, earth's magnetic field and the intensity overall. In northern Europe it is quite closely monitored in the northern countries.
Seeing the Aurora oval is most likely the most significant and essential tool in forecasting the Northern Lights. NOAA has provided data for years but has proven the last couple of years to be more and more un reliable and faulty by as much as two days + -.

I miss some layers on Windy that I find handy.

                          • Current aurora and aurora forecast

                          • TPW (Total Precipitable Water). Like the one they have on Earthnullschool. I like to see how much water there actually is in the air in kg/m2. Not only the dew point temperature.

                          • Feels like-temperatures

Also, I wish it was possible to modify colors for the weather warning types, and the weather radar.

                          Hege

                            Hey,
Is it possible to make a overly to see the activities from the aurora?

Hi, If there is any plans/posibility to implement data for Aurora's forecast?
                              Like from: https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/aurora-30-minute-forecast

That's probably one of the last function not available at Windy.

What about something like this implementation? https://earth.nullschool.net/#current/space/surface/level/anim=off/overlay=aurora/orthographic=-5.33,66.28,861/loc=4.851,62.603

Is there a way to know when Aurora Borealis will be observable in either hemispheres ? Since they depend very much from sun flares, can they be predictable ?

Hi, I'm always using the windy app, it's my preferred weather information source. I'm also an avid sun watcher and it would be awesome if windy included things such as the aurora forecast. Hope others would also agree... awesome app by the way, best there is o it's kind..🥂✌🏻🇨🇦👍🏻 keep up the great work
