Would it be possible to implement space weather like solar wind, CME bursts and forecasting on visible auroras?

Indeed, without a doubt! This information would be incredibly pertinent and helpful. Please do it, the data is freely available and should be easy to integrate.

Hi! It's been suggested 4 years ago, but I think adding space weather related maps would be great if possible.

            • Auroras

            • Radio blackout

            • Ozone layer

            • Magnetic field

Anyhow, thanks for such a great app!

              Hello,
              Suggestion for a new layers:
              SPACE WEATHER

              • Geomagnetic Storms
              • Solar Radiation Storms
              • Radio Blackouts
              • Aurora
I know Im anot the first to wish for that
Would be good and to have it
It would really fit to the versatileness of WINDY
                Thank you

How about an Auroracast layer like here:

                  https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/aurora-viewline-tonight-and-tomorrow-night-experimental

Meteor shower forecasts would be good too.

And if these already exist, can someone tell me how to find them?

The app should have an aurora forecast feature. It’s the only missing feature to make it the best and most complete forecast app.

@Luiz-Gonzaga-2 Hello, our app focuses on weather for sport enthusiasts, aurora forecast is not considered to be a feature necessary for this niche.

I hope this answers your question.

Can an Earth magnetic field layer be added? Solar EMF effects on the weakening magnetic fields are already occurring with more auroras at new latitudes. This affects radio transmissions etc. Also a magnetic field layer would allow pole shift/field monitoring which would be nice as the poles movement is accelerating and according to some will flip in 2040. It would be nice to see the evidence. If it does happen it will be the major extinction event for many species and end of our civilisation due to EMF effects and radiation from space getting through the field or maybe just one large solar flare. A lot of the granite on the ancient buildings in Egypt had melt/scorch marks indicating that such a catastrophic solar event occurred. Like this: https://i.imgur.com/TxErMjC.jpg

I agree that a "drone safe flight layer" would be great.
Electromagnetic disturbances risk forecast and realtime measure / KP¨index, cloud base (visibility), rain (radar), restricted flight zones (many countries implemented that in SIG solutions) with max flight altitude are some of the things drone pilots need.
Quite the datas from UAV Forecast, but the windy (better) way !

Set a location and time period for the flight and get all these informations at once !

I know they are hard to predict but there is some great real time data out there that could make a great map overlay. What’s your thoughts 💭

You should add an aurora forecast overlay to the map :)

I think Windy needs Aurora forcast map. Even it wouldn't reach the most of people on Earth it would be very interesting little add for those who lives near places to see those incredible lights.

I see a direct competitor using NOAA data for displaying auroras.

@TommiR, I completely agree with your observation. Living in the UK, I have also noticed the increasing frequency of Aurora Borealis sightings. It would be incredibly beneficial if Windy could incorporate an overlay feature to visualize and comprehend the timing, location, and intensity of this phenomenon.

@TommiR hopefully the more the community asks, the more likely Windy devs will deliver.
