Precip totals
-
It would be cool if in the forecast as you hover across with your mouse it had a total of the precip amounts. Total rain, total snow. Kind of like what SpotWx does. This would be very helpful instead of trying to add up all the amounts over a period and for comparing various models. Thanks for your consideration!

For rain you can use the “Rain accumulation” layer.
For snow, the accumulation of snowfall would be misleading, as snow naturally settles (and melts). It would therefore not reflect the actual snow depth on the ground. It is best to consult the "Snow Depth" layer. -
@idefix37 I am just trying to get a forecasted total amount of snow and instead of having to add each three hour amount by hand it would be sweet if it could just show the total. As for rain amounts the mapping does work but again just having the numerical value displayed would be more user friendly.

Is it to know how many centimeters of snow will fall and how deep the snow will be at the end? -
@idefix37 Hi, don't really care how deep the snow will be. Like you mentioned before HS (height of snow) will vary depending on a lot of variables. Just trying to see a total amount of forecasted snow or rain for a given time to be able to compare the different weather models outputs.

OK, so you want to know the total rainfall and snowfall.
Actually, that's what the “Rain accumulation” layer shows. It should be called “Precipitation accumulation”, and I should correct my first message in this thread, sorry.
“Rain accumulation” do include both liquid and solid precipitation.See this example in South Greenland with “Rain accumulation” layer

“Rain accumulation” shows more than 90mm but it is only snow !
I guess Windy uses this parameter for ECMWF model. -
Ok, still a bit clunky IMHO as compared to a simple numerical value. Dealing with shades of color over a larger area instead of the point forecast. As well, where we live a lot of the time storms are right on the verge between rain and snow and it can be nice to differentiate amounts between the two precip types. How much rain are we gonna get vs how much snow?

I guess what I'm looking for is something like this. A cursor bar that gives totals as you move your cursor across the graph. It is a feature in SpotWx that seems like it would be simple to incorporate into Windy. As you move your cursor across the given forecast or as you move the bar I guess in windy, it would be awesome to have it display the running totals of precip in its various forms.

@Suty
Hi,
Don't you think the designation "Rain accumulation" should be replaced by "Precipitation accumulation," as it includes snowfall? You can easily check this in polar regions where “Rain accumulation” is actually just the accumulation of solid precipitation (snow). See my previous post in this thread.
Or at least, this should be clearly stated in the "About this data" section.
If I'm not mistaken, the ECMWF specifies that “This parameter is the accumulated liquid and frozen water, comprising rain and snow, that falls to the Earth's surface”.
