I'm using it in South Korea and haven't seen any ads at all—which is exactly why I switched to it. Local Korean map apps are packed with annoying ads.
It looks like this is region-dependent and depends on where you're using the app (so no ads in places like Korea due to lower ad targeting or demand). I guess some of us are benefiting from these regional differences... for now
