weather radar in Indonesia

Hi,
Since around January 4, 2026, weather radar data covering Indonesia has been unavailable.
We really need it, especially after the cyclone in Sumatra.
Previously, I recommended some friends to try using windy.com. They also asked the same question. We are disappointed that weather radar for Indonesia cannot be displayed.Thank you for your attention.

@Alex-Dialfonso Hello, we usually stop receiving data from the source, so we cannot display anything then. If you know any reliable source of data for this region, I would be glad to share it with our colleagues.

Hi @Alex-Dialfonso, indeed, data for Indonesia have been unavailable from around 2026-01-03 11:00 UTC until today (2026-01-05) around 05:00 UTC. The data became available and came back online without any intervention from our side, so my guess is that the data was not available at the source (Indonesian BMKG).

The service provider transmits data, but it's not shown in the program. There's lightning, but the main display of moving rain clouds isn't.

I tried accessing the radar data through BMKG's mobile app (available for android here) and I get no data either. Does it work for you?@ирек-сафин you previously showed screenshot from BMKG's app. Is the radar data still available for you? Through the app?

Yes, the radar data is still available. Plus, after the update, the program stopped detecting my location.

Hi @Ирек-Сафин, thank you for confirmation. Currently it seems that, the app work only from Indonesia. I'm in contact with BMKG and I hope to get access to the data. It seems to be commercially available (according to BMKG's catalog), but the price is unbearably high.

@Filip_K There's a big difference between the actual weather and what the app shows. It's raining outside right now, and BMKG is reporting it, but Windy shows no rain. If I understand correctly, the app will simply guess the weather without BMKG data?
It turns out that in this region there is no alternative service provider that would broadcast the weather, rather than guess it. -

It turns out that in this region there is no alternative service provider that would broadcast the weather, rather than guess it.Weather radars are not used to predict the weather, but to observe rain.
Weather forecasting is based on weather models like the ones Windy uses (ECMWF, GFS, ICON, ACCESS). So without radar, Windy doesn’t “guess” the weather. Windy shows the forecast provided by major weather centers through their weather models. However these models don’t display exactly where it is currently raining. But they provide a forecast for the current and the next days.

Hi @ekowahyu, unfortunately, no. We are in contact with BMKG and we're hoping to negotiate a deal to get access to the radar data.
This might take few months though, since the data is not publicly available anymore.

@Filip_K hi can you try to contact IMD because Imd the issues I may every 20 to 4 min but the internal images update every 10 minutes can you try to get a deal with them to get the internal image

@Filip_K may be next time could do that but if you somehow done it windy will be the most accurate weather app in every way
the advantages are
Radar layer In India updates every 7 to 10 min
Access to velocity and cc for future layers
And bharat forcast system with six km resolution
And even you can get access to new inaugurated radar images before they are in the public feed
