Confirmed; this also holds true at any altitude - I checked, as sometimes ground/surface level wind directions can differ from those at other (higher) altitudes.
-
So, I've seen this bug reported in at least 5 different threads for as many days now, but nobody from Windy has weighed in yet. Are they aware of it? If not, is there a mechanism (other than posting here) to let them know?
Fortunately we're not underway sailing right now - if we were this would be a major safety issue, and an urgent reason to familiarize ourselves with alternatives (ahem).
-
Correction: the first time this bug (presumably) was reported was 16 days ago: https://community.windy.com/topic/43612/wind-particle-animation-@-diff-directions-@-diff-zoom-levels

From "Topic" to "Bug Report" - I suppose it's now "official"?
-
Not until it's "Replicable". I'm disappointed by the total lack of response.
Fwiw I found an every in the error console - not sure if it's related:

I am having the same issue with snake lines moving from bottom to top. No relation to wind direction !

Hello!
Thank you for reporting this issue! Our current guess is that this only occurs on the PowerVR GPUs in your specific phone models. We're sourcing a comparable phone for debugging now, as the issue does not show up on any of our current testing phones.
-
Thanks for the update! Good to know you're on it. I'll try to give a more precise description of what exactly I'm seeing: the particle animation shows a wind field that:
- depends on the zoom scale,
- is nearly (but not exactly) the same across the globe,
- is most often near zero, but sometimes strong,
- has a southerly bias (the stronger, the more southerly), and
- at medium strength shows a zig zag pattern.
Looks to me (computer guy myself) like misaligned floats.

@SV-Amani
I have exactly the same issue mith my Android Redmi 9A -
I have the same issue from 2/3 days with my Redmi 9A

I am in Ushuaia and have to sail to Peru in 2 days.
Please help me -
Me too have the same issue from 2/3 days with my oppo54s

@QLB I've just been able to downgrade Windy on my phone to a previous working version, 48.1.2, through apkmirror.com (or you can use apkpure.com). The process is a bit involved - you need to download their installer app, and click your way through multiple ads - but it works.

Me to same issue of my phone Redmi 6A

@Junior-Pioquinto Hello, yes, this device still has the same type of GPU, where the issue was found. Our colleagues are already aware of this and working on the solution.
-
@Veracis said in Wind Animations:
Particles now randomly crossing screen: generally upward motion: bears no relation to pressure isolines. Unusable.

Hello, we've found a fix, it'll go live in the next major version (50). I'll post here again once the fix is live.

@D.R.G Hello, can you please provide more details about the issue? Do you see this behavior also when you are in the lower zoom levels?
