      Hello all,

I'm a boater and after using multiple tools, my preference is the Windy's Measure&Plan feature. However, it lacks for me 3 main features :

      • One average speed per leg, instead of a global leg speed
On a route, if we're broadreaching we'll go faster than going downwind or upwind, and would allow more precise routing instead of having a global speed for the entire trip

      • Wind, waves, current directions relative to the boat's heading, as well as wind speed (even if AWS/AWA might only be range hints).
It's pretty difficult to assess the wind direction relative to the boat when I have an arrow showing the direction of the wind and the general course of the boat

      • Multiple planning on the same map (a-la predictwind) where I can compare multiple routes or multiple departure times.

Being a developper I was thrilled to see that there was a plugin architecture but it seems I would have to recode the entire functionality. Moreover, it doesn't seem I can get access the the v1/rplanner/ API that would give me all the required data.

Would it be possible to get access to the source code (I don't think so but you never know :)) to implement the enhancements and get them review by Windy's team, or would it be possible to have the rplanner API available ?

      Thanks !
      Thomas

        Hello,

        • I agree with your first point. It would be very useful to be able to adjust the boat speed per leg (the section of road between 2 waypoints). This would be mainly useful for sailboats, not for big ships which can set their average speed.

        • Concerning your second point, it is possible to get the “relative” direction of wind and waves in the Route planner. However I don’t mean the relative wind direction resulting from the true wind speed and the boat speed, but the wind and waves direction relative to the boat course.
In More option set “From left to right” or “Bottom to top” instead of “North up”.
          See more explanation here.

        • Your third point would be interesting too.

          • About your third point, it is important to note that you can save a route as a Favorite.
You can save several routes (not the weather conditions) and test them again with different departure dates for instance or to compare them with the same and new model update. If you make a change on these routes, the new track is automatically saved.
Unfortunately it is not possible to sort these routes in the list of Favorites but you can rename them.
            See what I mean.
It is therefore important to save a route as soon as you have plotted it to avoid losing it when you leave the app.

            Hi @idefix37

Thanks a lot for your inputs ! I didn't know the bottom-top left-right options, I'll look into that. About the 3rd point yes this is what I'm doing, juggling with multiple tabs. That works, but would be easier to have everything on one screen.

Hopefully I can have access to the rplanner API, looks like it has everything we need, it even supports the per-leg average speed.

            Thanks,
            Thomas

Regarding your question about rplanner API, I hope a developer from the Windy staff will provide a reply.

@blaaaaaaah Hello, unfortunately, route planner is anyhow offered in our API and it is not planned. We provide data and map visualizations as a secondary tool for third-party apps, but route planner stays only in our app.
