Favoriting Locations & Making Alerts for Nearby Locations
-
Hello,
I'm paragliding and there are various locations that are good for groundhandling vs actually flying. I'm trying to pin exact locations where I'd like to do this, but because they're within a couple km of each other Windy keeps attaching them all to a single location and I'm unable to name them appropriately. Very annoying. How can I just favorite/alert EXACT pin locations where I want it and have it stop auto-messing up the ones I've already created?
Thank you,
-
Hello @tjbiddle,
when you create various alerts for exact locations, that are very close to each other, you should be able to individually name them to avoid any grouping in the alert system. Did you try to handle this?
Please let me know.

Previously it was possible to create a favorite location using the weather picker. For instance I have some favorites at sea. Now it is no longer possible (or I’ve missed something). The only way seems to enter a location name in the search bar, which is very restrictive especially for outdoor activities. -
@idefix37 You still should be open the exact location with the picker, so open the detail via the picker, then click on the heart icon next to the search field and select Alert for this spot.

@Suty
Thank you, you're right. I had completely missed that point. -
@tjbiddle
I made a test and create 2 favorites at 1.4km distance (measured by the Distance&planning feature).
What weather model do you use in Windy? If it is the default model in Windy (ECMWF), its resolution is 9km, which means that it will not be able to provide a forecast with a 1.4km granularity (no difference in forecast at this distance).
But in Windy there are models with a 2km resolution, even 1km. -
Hi @idefix37
you can use the meteoblue model, which has no grid and every point is computed to the exact lat/lon.So I can imagine several alerts, close together might be reasonable.

Hi,
My post was intended to show @tjbiddle that if the minimum distance between two favorite locations created in Windy is 1.4 km, there's no point in reducing this distance when using a model with a 9km resolution.Your suggestion to use Meteoblue doesn't solve the problem of the minimum distance between two favorites, which cannot be reduced apparently. By the way creating a favorite is not always with the aim of creating an alert.
Of course, we can use the weather picker at very short distances with this model instead of using two favorites. This would require searching for those points each time.
