Visual Issues with Precipitation Overlay on Cloud Cover Layer
-
Dear Windy Team,
I am writing to provide feedback regarding a significant decline in the visual quality and usability of the Precipitation layer when viewed over the Cloud Cover layer.
The current rendering of precipitation as granular, dotted, and cross-hatched patterns is a major "eye-sore" and is not viewer-friendly. These textures make it extremely difficult to view and interpret weather patterns, especially when running model animations that capture both cloud coverage and precipitation simultaneously.
Specifically, I would like to request the following improvements:
Smoothed Textures: Please provide a smoothed-out precipitation layer that overlaps with the cloud cover, similar to the smooth texture scheme currently used on the Rain, Thunder layer option.
Satellite/Radar Resemblance: Prognostic data should more closely resemble actual satellite and radar images rather than the current pixelated, blocky patterns, for the sake of consistency and continuity.
Improved Clarity: The current "granular" rendering makes fine-scale structures like intensity gradients and frontal boundaries much harder to interpret during animations.
As a user who relies on these animations to track developing weather systems, the recent shift toward these coarse patterns feels like a step backward in UI/UX quality. Returning to a higher-resolution, smoother interpolation method would significantly restore the clarity Windy is known for.
Thank you for your time and for the ongoing work you do to provide such a powerful weather tool. I look forward to seeing these visual refinements in a future update.
Sincerely,
AJ -
