Loosing Lat/Long Grid and Pressure Isobars
-
Hi Windy Team,
Using "Windy" regularly on my iphone, ipad, laptop and desktop.
Almost every time I have to recover settings and to activate lat/long grid and pressure isobars on the screen.
Am I doing something wrong?Prefer to have same settings every time log in.
Thanks.
Cheers

@zeljko Hello, we have some cases when this happens, if you update the app, but standardly it shouldn't occur. Can you please provide more detail of how you use Windy?
-
@Suty Hi, mostly checking on my iphone or ipad. When doing more in depth planning for the voyage then will go to my laptop or desktop. Wind is the biggest interest and sea water temperature only during the cyclone season.

O otinokyad referenced this topic

@zeljko See my bug report immediately subsequent to yours: I also have the disappearing isobars issue, but at random during screen refresh! I don’t even have to login to have it happen.
-
@otinokyad Hello, can you please provide more details or any screen recording to get more info about this issue?

@Suty My default view is Satellite with Radar Overlay, My location, and Show lightning turned on; plus Isobars from the 3-bar red menu:

Notice that it is intentionally off-center from my location because I want to see incoming weather patterns.
As I described in my earlier bug report, any of several things can happen, seemingly at random, when the display advances on a subsequent time-step. The most common is to revert to what is apparently the default display for the app, Wind.

The second screenshot shows such a reversion, in this case with the isobars still present, but re-centered and zoomed-in on my location... even though the blue dot has disappeared!! But the isobars do not always show up in this re-set. They just happened to be present in this one.
Here is another re-set where Radar, Location, and Isobars behave as expected, but the cloud cover that is part of the base satellite view does not fully render. It's more common for that failure to be in the Western part of the US, rather than the Eastern, but it seems that anything can happen!

I hope this helps explain what I am seeing regarding the disappearing isobars. Thanks for any thoughts.
(You already saw my earlier post, where the app shifts to portrait even though the iPad Pro is locked in landscape. I understood your explanation of that one, so no need to repeat.)

@otinokyad Hello, we went through your post with colleagues and we are still not sure, what exactly the issue is.
I understood that you are missing isolines when you open Radar/satellite layer. This is intentional since isolines data display forecasted data, but RadSat are realtime observations.
The behavior of missing satellite is not ideal as well and that is why we are planning to update the whole satellite layer, so data will be more stable. It will be out in our upcoming version 50, which is in the testing process now.

@Suty The issue is that the change from the first screenshot to the second — what I have called a re-set — happens spontaneously with no action on my part. The display (first image) can go along updating just fine at successive time stamps on the bottom bar and then abruptly re-set at random times (to the second image)… after an hour or less, or on one recent occasion for more than 24 hours. (This latter occasion followed my first bug report a few days ago, and I thought perhaps you had pushed out a fix! But, no.). Does this clarify the issue?
-
@otinokyad Okay, so you are in the satellite layer and out of nowhere app switches to wind layer?
-
@Suty Yes, that's correct. Sorry I gave you too much information in my earlier replies. 🙁
At the risk of repeating that problem(!), I will add that my use case is probably not typical. I have Windy open on my larger iPad Pro perhaps 60-70% of the time, only stopping when I move the whole unit (photo below) to my desk to use as a second screen on my iMac. I would understand that perhaps I have this issue of switching to the Wind layer only because I have the app running for such long periods, up to 2-3 days sometimes.

I do have to say, though, that my wife and I are virtually addicted to having the Windy display available all the time. It is wonderful, despite the unpredictable re-sets. 🙂😎
-
@otinokyad Hello, it can be related to the time period. However, what layer do you use as a default one in your settings?
-
@Suty Well, isn't my face red? I have Satellite as default on my iPhone and smaller iPadPro. I just assumed that it synced on the larger iPadPro (above). But no! So I have set it to Satellite now, and I'll watch to see if the problem stops or continues. So far, overnight, all is good!

@suty The screen has re-set twice since my last post. Both times it came back to Satellite as the new default, with two differences: (1) I have to add the isobars, which you explained previously; and (2) it re-centers on my location, rather than the off-center position that I prefer to see the incoming patterns. I can live with the second issue, since it is just a finger swipe to re-position it where I want it. So bottom line: The three original issues are resolved. Thanks for your help.
