Radar issue
-

@suty Windy is only showing the last image and ignoring the first two -
@HardikP What source is it? Can you share it?
-
-
@HardikP Hello the source should be completely same as we use.
-
@Suty but but there is the issue why it isn't showing the storms
-
@HardikP And how about the heavy rain alerts do you have them turned on as well?
-
On the 1st image (windy) no TSTM shown although lightnings exist NW from location (Mangaluru).
On the 2nd and 3rd image (from IMD), TSTMs shown NW from the radar location. Those images have MAXDISPLAY and PPI format
and radar beam elevation 0.2.
On the 4th image (from IMD) no TSTM shown
(PPI-ACCU format and elevation 1 degree).
Probably TSTMs are not shown because radar's beam is elevated
and passes over the clouds.
I Think windy shows data in the format of the 4th image
which has best range (450 km!!!) but not so good resolution.
I suggest MAXDISPLAY format. -
The opposite happens in Crete Island, Greece
where wireless technology sources and ground clutters interfere
with radar's beam.
(When weather radar sweeps at a low elevation angle beam, it frequently encounters interference).

@Gkikas-LGPZ Thank you for detailed explanation of these sources. I will forward this to colleagues so they can consider potential change, but I personally think that we focus on the area coverage.
-
@Gkikas-LGPZ hey I know what happened
The normal imd format max z . PPI short 150 km and ppi long 450-500 km they changed this format in Mangaluru it's max z , ppi 250 km , accu 450 km this is the issue @suty -
@HardikP Hello, I forwarded this information to our colleagues from the devteam. They will take a look by the end of this week. I will keep you informed.
-
@Suty new radar have been added to the IMD website
Jorhat and more check the website and source and add them -
@Suty how long will it take for the radars to be added as monsoon is near
-
@HardikP Hello, unfortunately, I don't have any expected time period, but our colleague started to work on this.
-
@HardikP Hello, it should be fixed on our end.
-
@Suty warning are back but I don't think the new radars were added If you want I can give you the links
-
@HardikP I am not sure if I understand your message. I have info about from colleagues that the radar should be fixed, however there is one more radar that needs to be added.
-
@Suty sorry the message got auto corrected but it was really was fasr the new radars were added to the IMD website 4 days ago and you are already adding them
But in the future it could became really hard to it has India is doing mass expansion of the dwr network goals is the reach 120+ by end of 2027 you get what I mean so many radars in a short time period -
@Suty multiple more new radars were added
