New User - Seeking Reliable Short-Term Weather App
-
Hi everyone,
I’m a new Windy user looking for a reliable weather app that provides accurate forecasts for the current day and up to 3 days ahead. I’m based in Croatia (primarily Zagreb), so I need good local coverage for this region.
As someone who uses Windy and similar apps, I’d appreciate your recommendations on:
• Which weather models work best for Croatia and the Adriatic region?
• Is Windy the best choice for short-term forecasts (0–3 days), or should I combine it with other apps?
• For Zagreb specifically, which model gives the most accurate results for rain, wind, and temperature?
• Any tips for maximizing accuracy with short-term forecasts in Central Europe?
I’m looking for practical advice from experienced users who’ve tested these apps in similar conditions. Thanks in advance for your help!
Best regards, -
The Observation vs. forecast feature (available to Premium users only) indicates that Meteoblue (only available in the detailed forecast table) is the best model for temperature, while ICON is the best for wind. I used data from a WMO weather station in Zagreb to perform this comparison. Rain parameter is not available in this feature.

Hi,
Thanks for the helpful explanation — that was very useful. I mainly use the Weather radar layer because I want to see when a storm is approaching my location and how fast it is moving.
I have a few more questions that might help me understand Windy better:
• Can you recommend the best layer for tracking storms and short-term precipitation?
• Is Weather radar usually the most useful layer for this, or are there better ones for Croatia and Zagreb?
• For short-term forecasting, which layers do you personally use most often?
• Is there a good way to combine radar, model forecasts, and observations for better accuracy?
• Besides Meteoblue for temperature and ICON for wind, are there any other models worth checking for Croatia?
• Does the Premium plan add anything really useful for someone who mostly follows weather in the next 0–3 days?
• Would you say Premium is worth it mainly for better convenience, faster updates, or extra features like observation vs forecast and alerts?
I’m based in Croatia and mainly want a reliable app for current conditions and very short-term forecasts, especially for rain, storms, wind, and temperature. Local ones are not accurate :) .
Thanks in advance for any advice!
