South Africa Doppler radar still unavailable after 8 months

Hello, I came to ask why the South Africa Doppler radar has still not come back after disappearing around a few weeks after being added at the beginning of the year. Was hoping to get some insight on if it will return at any point in the near future? Thanks.

@fgoodlad I saw something that it was due to infrastructure issues and theft, hope we get it back though

@Mandy-Lindsay Hello, we are aware of this issue, but we don't have any data from the provider. If you know any source of this data, which is available for us, we would appreciate sharing these with us.

What I am wondering is why we had coverage for a few weeks early this year and why it disappeared after a few weeks. Is there no way to restore the source you had during those few weeks? What was the source?

@fgoodlad I think one of the radars provided was located in Potchefstroom and it is down since the 10th March 2026, I wasn't able to find an alternative source that Windy could use, and I assume the other radars as well might have similar issues...

Hi @fgoodlad, after we started showing radar data for SA, we were contacted by South African Weather Service.
The data belongs to them and they requested we stop displaying it. So we did.
I have been trying to get in touch with them to discuss any possibility to display the data again, but so far without any luck.

@Filip_K the radar data is only available on their aviation website, and it is not available to the general public.
Most of the radar sites are not operational, anyway.
