      When I zoom in, there is a point where the view switches to a Map view and the color gradients go away. Is there a way to disable that? I am mostly interested in seeing the color gradients, and really don't care about the google like maps.

        @wholybee
        It is not possible to zoom in on the color gradient beyond the current limit.
        This is justified: given the 10 km average resolution of main models, it is unrealistic to expect to obtain further detail regarding the color gradients by zooming to higher level.

          @idefix37 It should be an option. I don't expect more detail, but I expect to be able to make the image larger so I can see it better. And I don't think it is at all justified to make the color gradient disappear. This is a weather/wind site. Not google maps.

                    I imagine that you call jet-stream winds as Rossby winds?
                    These high speed winds waving at high level.
                    Just select the Wind layer and set the altitude at 300hPa.

                    In menu you can in addition show the Geopotential isolines.

                          ![alt text](image url)1000643689.jpg We usually follow rain systems coming from the Indian Ocean at 850 hPa. But how can we track a Western Disturbance (WD) — where it is located, how to identify it, and what its possible track could be?

                          Please explain the method and share it with the relevant features highlighted on a map.
