Windy app closes automatically
-
The app closes automatically when I zoom in or out, or when I drag the map.
-
@chrisfebruyn Hello, can you please tell us more about this issue? More info about your device would be appreciated as well.
-
Hi, I'm having the same issue. Open the app, try to drag or zoom the map and the app crashes.
That's on my Samsung Galaxy tab A9 running Android 16. Tried to report this via the app but the short video I made showing the crash won't attach to the error report.

@George-Goodfellow Does Windy work in the browser on the same device?
-
@Suty yes, it does. Using the Duck Duck go browser.
-
thanks for letting us know, and sorry about the crashes!
Could you tell us:
- your exact tablet model and RAM (Settings → About tablet)
- when the app crashes (right at start, or when doing something specific)
That will help us find the cause

@Suty said in Windy app closes automatically:
your exact tablet model and RAM (Settings → About tablet)
The tablet is a Galaxy Tab 9, SM-X110
RAM is 8GB
when the app crashes (right at start, or when doing something specific)
The crash happens if I try to scroll or zoom the map just after I've opened the app. As in I open app, immediately try to move or zoom, crash. I think I can briefly see the 'loading' dots appear at the bottom of the screen. Just tried opening and leaving it a short time before zooming/scrolling and it still crashed.
It does this when the app opens on satellite with radar overlaid.
I haven't got time to check all layers, but it seemed OK with just rain model data being displayed.
Does that suggest a problem with satellite and/or radar layers?

@George-Goodfellow I am afraid that this is related to your device HW, since we don't have more reports about this, or if we do, it is usually related to devices with older hardware.
-
@Suty oh, ok. It didn't used to do it. Can't recall exactly when the app started crashing i.e. Which version of the app I was using. Is there anywhere I can find older apk files to try and find the last working version of the app?
-
I'll take the lack of reply as a 'no'.

Yes, I am also having this issue. This is so disappointing, it was fine all the time with only occasional crashes. Now the app crashes more often especially for radar display. I don't think I am gonna continue my subscription for the upcoming renewal.
-
In my case, I am running Android 16 on a Motorola Edge 60 Fusion. As recommended, I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and I have also cleared the cache, but the issue persists.
When I look for a region in the Radar view, the images start displaying correctly while the playback animation is running. However, as soon as I try to view the next-hour forecast, the app closes automatically (crashes).
There is no error message displayed, nor is there any prompt to report the crash or send feedback.

Hi. Based on our findings so far, this appears to be related to a firmware issue affecting certain mobile GPUs.
We are currently rolling out version 51.3.2, and it should be available to all users by next week.
Once you receive the update, could you please check whether the behavior has improved or changed in any way?
Thank you in advance for your help.
