Using new v2 api redirects to wunderground?
-
Hi all! I'm trying to migrate my upload program over to the new Windy v2 API. WHen I send a GET to http://stations.windy.com/api/v2/pws with all of the rest of the URL formatted as it would be for wunderground (since they say it's compatible, I'm just using the normal wunderground upload routine with a different hostname, url, stationid, and password), I get back a "308 Permanent redirect" to "weatherstation.wunderground.com". Is the new v2 API being handled by wunderground?
Just trying to make sure everything is ok.

@rajid Can you please provide more info about what exactly you send to Windy and what you receive? Our Station API is not handled by Wunderground, we only offer the way to share data from them on our end.

@Suty
I'm opening a TCP connection to port 80 on Stations.windy.com.
I'm then sending my update like so:
GET /api/v2/pws?ID=f07150ff&PASSWORD=MyPassword&dateutc=2026-09-29%2022:16:15&tempf=82.9&humidity=49&dewptf=61.81&baromin=29.62&winddir=213&windspeedmph=7&windgustmph=13.0&windgustmph_10m=13.0&windgustdir_10m=225&dailyrainin=0.00&rainin=0.00&softwaretype=raj HTTP/1.1I receive back:
HTTP/1.1 308 Permanent Redirect
Cache-Control: private
Location: https://weatherstation.wunderground.com:443/api/v2/pws?ID=f07150ff&PASSWORD=7bcf73b75e1fb7c2bc8c6ba61db880dde7a270e539a2c83653dcc646ad449a69&dateutc=2026-09-29 22:16:15&tempf=82.9&humidity=49&dewptf=61.81&baromin=29.62&winddir=213&windspeedmph=7&windgustmph=13.0&windgustmph_10m=13.0&windgustdir_10m=225&dailyrainin=0.00&rainin=0.I'll have to add more logging.

@rajid Hello, please check our documentation, I think you have wrong path for updating your stations observations.
-
@Suty
I see, you're right. I have now changed it to:
/api/v2/observation/update
but I still get a redirect. -
@Suty
Maybe it makes a difference that I upload information to wunderground as well as openweathermap and pws? -
@rajid Hello, can you once again provide what exactly you receive now?
-
@Suty
I am now connecting to wu.windy.com (as per the API documentation) and I'm sending:GET /api/v2/observation/update?ID=f07150ff&PASSWORD=MyPassword&dateutc=2026-10-02%2020:45:04&tempf=105.3&humidity=21&dewptf=57.49&baromin=29.73&winddir=21&windspeedmph=0&windgustmph=7.0&windgustmph_10m=7.0&windgustdir_10m=202&dailyrainin=0.00&rainin=0.00&softwaretype=raj HTTP/1.1
and the reply is:
HTTP/1.1 308 Permanent Redirect

@Suty
(I just now looked for the documentation mentioning "wu.windy.com" and can't seem to find it, so I changed back to using "stations.windy.com" as the documentation says. Connecting with HTTP to port 80 and sending (password substituted with "MyPassword", of course):GET /api/v2/observation/update?ID=f07150ff&PASSWORD=MyPassword&dateutc=2026-10-02%2020:54:07&tempf=106.1&humidity=21&dewptf=58.14&baromin=29.73&winddir=40&windspeedmph=2&windgustmph=4.0&windgustmph_10m=4.0&windgustdir_10m=180&dailyrainin=0.00&rainin=0.00&softwaretype=raj HTTP/1.1
and getting a reply of:
HTTP/1.1 308 Permanent Redirect
Cache-Control: private
Location: https://weatherstation.wunderground.com:443/api/v2/observation/update?ID=f07150ff&PASSWORD=MyPassword&dateutc=2026-10-02 20:54:07&tempf=106.1&humidity=21&dewptf=58.14&baromin=29.73&winddir=40&windspeedmph=2&windgustmph=4.0&windgustmph_10m=4.0&windgustdir_10m=180&dailyrainin=0'ret = 132

I got it working.
