      Just wanted to point out that making Meteoblue (with or without any AI assistance) the default model for the Continental US is a mistake.

      At least in Texas (I'm in Austin), it is consistently one of the very worst and most inaccurate of all the forecast models. I unwisely accepted your recommendation, and was surprised to learn that it changes the settings without actually activating the slider for startup model selection. This threw mw for a while, as I had to change it to something else, make that the default, then I could turn the selection off again to get back to where I was before.

      Anyway, this is just a long way of saying this was a boneheaded move, and that even your new and improved AI model is just flat dreadful at predicting Texas weather, and I suspect it's no better anywhwere in the Central or Southern US. You should choose another default for people in this part of the world.

        @dub

        You may be right, but for now, Meteoblue shows the smallest discrepancy regarding wind and temperature forecasts compared to observations reported at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport weather station.

          @idefix37 That's because Meteoblue cheats and updates the immediate forecast based on what's current conditions, so it seems super reliable in the next hour, but it's wildly off even a few more hours into the future. It also updates more frequently so that that cheating is more visible. This morning, for instance, it resolutely insisted there would be no rain until this afternoon, when it was pouring across half of Austin at breakfast. It updated later, but notably, only after another set of rain streamers had reached the Airport - that's when I realized what was going on! GFS, NAM, and even ECMWF were all much more accurate in their actual forecast for today.

          AI certainly does NOT seem to have made the base Meteoblue forecast any better: The Meteoblue model is consistently second only to ICON for sucking at forecasting Texas' weather. (To be fair, Texas has pretty dynamic weather due to it being the convergence of several different kinds of ecosystems: mountains, desert, high plains prairies, hill country, coastal plains beaches and swamps, and piney wood forests. Meteoblue just doesn't seem up to handling that ambiguity nearly as well as other models.)

            @dub Finding the same thing here in Australia. My colleague was looking at the forecast earlier this week, he stated how bad it was predicted. I was looking at mine (ECMWF) wondering what he was on about. His app had selected the Metoblue AI, it was nothing close. I've lived in this area for 40 years, I've never seen it get colder than -1ºc, metoblue AI was recently predicting -4ºc. Highly unreliable at them moment.

              @dub said in Meteoblue is a horrible choice for Contiental US WX:

              I have also noted this type of readjustment.

              As Premium user you can select your own default model.

                @idefix37 Got it. I figured out I can change it, but I wish I hadn't tried the Meteoblue AI forecast in the first place. I really don't think it's nearly good enough to be a default, at least in the central US.

                And it's actually kinda buggy changing the default model, too, since you need to change the submenu selections for things that aren't even activated according to the position of their slider switches. A UI trainwreck, to be honest.
