Rain or Snow ?

As the winter is coming (to the northern hemisphere) I want to mention a "problem" that maybe drive us to bad forecasts.
The ECMWF model is not separating rain or snow (is indicating precipitation in general),
but GFS separates rain from snow.
Take a look at the picture:
Today, in a place in east Greenland ECMWF gives negative temperature (-12C) and 12,3 mm of rain.
Of course in such temp. the precipitation it will be in the form of snow with a depth aprox. 12 cm
(in general 1mm of rain = 1 cm of snow).
On the other hand, GFS is giving 7,7 mm of precipitation BUT on the meteogram we see (correctly) the symbol of snow with a snow depth in cm.
-
I second this.
-
So, I want to ask windy developers to improve ECMWF meteogram by involving
PTYPE Precipitation type (ID: 260015 GRIB2) and
SF Snow fall (ID:144)
if those datasets are available to you. -
Also, I want to ask you to change the icon for snow
as the color of the snowflake is similar to the background.
I suggest dark blue for the snowflake symbol.

@meteo-GR This is a bug. I will look at it. Thank you for detailed report!
-
@meteo-GR Fixed, thanks to @ivo
-
@meteo-GR Yes, readability of icons is problem (snowflakes, lightnings). We will consider some update.
-
Should be fixed

@ivo
Thank you for fixing it.Your response time in every problem is amazing!

We thx for great bug report and help here on community

Tell me, is it possible for the map to display the form of precipitation (rain, snow and others) in different colors, for example, on a separate layer. Interesting to see on the map how distributed precipitation? As I understand it the data is in the GFS and ECMWF?
-
@pautinka
It would be great if we have a "layers" option!
By now the only layers are the total clouds + rain (rain included as dots). -
@pautinka
Q: is it possible ... to display the form of precipitation ?
A: Yes it is !!!
