<![CDATA[Tide Forecast on Windy]]>@kekert is a snowkiter and has never been on a sailing boat, but as a mathematician he gathered some harmonics files, and so tide forecast on Windy is now a reality.

Tides are implemented as points on the map, so just click on the boat icon and there you are!

We have tides only for the USA, some parts of the Caribbean, Netherlands, the UK, Australia, NZ, Japan and Canada and some other locations.

The icon symbol is the actual tide forecast for the given time – so move the timeline and magic will happen!

To open a tide station, just click on the boat icon:

BEWARE: Tides can be forecasted only at certain tide stations (where measurement has been made). Some fraudulent mobile apps try to convince you that there is some universal formula to forecast tides for any location. They are liars.

At the very bottom, there are tides !
It's super super useful for me now as I'm in brasil kitesurfing and want to know when the lagoon is full, but also usefull when at home north of France when beaches disappear at high big tides. (You always need a few meters to setup your gear ;-) )

When is this planed to come into the windy app (android) ?

Not - 4 GMT so thefore it's off envyone knows it's 5 hours difference from Eastern time to Greenwich mean time so why do you have the tide forecast saying it's -4 GMT hours when it isn't

It's not too bad, the times for high and low water are pretty close useful as guide on how to plan a passage. I was mainly puzzled by the hights shown in windy. There are negative values. So the values given are definitely not suitable for use in navigational calculations, which is totally ok because the feature is experimental.

What hight reference datum does windy use?

In marine navigation the usual reference datum for water levels/depth is LAT=lowest astronomical tide which is used as zero depth in nautical charts and which ensures that hights of tides are always positive (by definition) and depths in a nav chart are minimal depth. (Actual water level may get negative due to wind or other influences but not due to calculated tides.)

To match the rest of the website which is very visual I was thinking about a tide chart with a sinusoidal curve with high and low points and a vertical line showing current time on the chart.

The feet to meters conversion doesn’t seem very accurate. For example, a tide shown as “14 feet” is also shown as “4.43m”. 4.43m is 14.53 feet, so which is it?

Half a foot can make a difference in a high tide, it could be the difference in flooding or not.

Amust though is to show the moon phase. This is fritical in determining spring and neap tides - also has huge effect on local currents.
