Tide Forecast on Windy
-
@korina, are you saying this functionality is already available? Maybe I have not found the right setting, but I am not seeing directional information in the map view, nor in the mouse-over hovers:
This is for https://www.windy.com/-Tidal-currents-currentsTide?currentsTide,48.571,-122.790,11,i:pressure,m:e0iacJV.The "tidal currents" and "currents" particle animation layers both look fairly useless / highly inaccurate in an area like the San Juan Islands. Station based tide forecasts are much more accurate, but do not indicate current direction currently, beyond "flooding", "slack", and "ebbing". Between islands, the direction of "flooding" or "ebbing" is often not very obvious.
-
The direction of currents are usually available as static property of tide forecast stations.
To expand on this with an example, NOAA station https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/noaacurrents/Predictions?id=PCT2126_1 lists the mean flood and ebb direction in its plain text and xml data formats. Example from XML station metadata:
- meanFloodDir: 315°(T)
- meanEbbDir:125° (T)

@gwicke Hello, the direction of currents or tidal currents is clearly visible by the moving particles. There is currently no other settings to display it differently.

The link to Weeks Bay in Baldwin County Alabama has Louisiana information!

Hi, please develop your Tide features with direction 0-360, Spring and Neapmtime, full/new moon etc, when its changing direction, and to what reference level you are using, LAT, MSL etc
-
On the tide page, posting first light and last light, dawn / dusk at the top of the tide table would be nice.

Vancouver Island tide map location for Skerry Bay, British Columbia is way off, there is no tide station at 900m anywhere on the island. A bay can be found on the east side of Lasqueti island at 49.4997° N and 124.2365° W.

Hello, we have only 1 tide station False Bay. The Tide forecast is still in Beta, so not all stations are available.

All tides come in imperial measurement system even though I have set metric in my preferences.
My bad, it shows both
-
All my settings are in feet yet tides display in meters. Need tides to display in feet as well. Thx

@B-B-12
Tides are clearly displayed in feet and in meters as shown by a screenshot 7 posts here above. -
Great idea! love it. Saves jumping to another app too.
-
Lots of good ideas mentioned to make valuable tool really great. Amust though is to show the moon phase. This is fritical in determining spring and neap tides - also has huge effect on local currents.
-
The feet to meters conversion doesn’t seem very accurate. For example, a tide shown as “14 feet” is also shown as “4.43m”. 4.43m is 14.53 feet, so which is it?
Half a foot can make a difference in a high tide, it could be the difference in flooding or not.

@ivo Tides layer is a nice addon but it's presentation feels outdated with the brown and blue lines compared to the rest of the app or website. To match the rest of the website which is very visual I was thinking about a tide chart with a sinusoidal curve with high and low points and a vertical line showing current time on the chart.

Tides are one of my important features, since I spend a significant time there. I would like to see the exact measurements I.e. decimals included. Thanks!
-
Fantastic and very useful addition to W. My daily go to for passage planning. Simple and complete. Thank you.

@SVFLIGHT @William-Cane @roadrunner40 @BlueMovement @Clark-Pine thank you for your interest in Tides. We considered it just a supplementary feature over the time. I am happy to read that you are using it. It seems that we should give it some facelift :)

@ivo Would you consider presenting tidal flows as a sine wave for all sites. The resultant visual presentation would make tidal estimates very quick as most mariners and boaties know the rule of twelfths
