Windy offers new model ICON-EU with 7km grid resolution
-
@TomSlavkovsky
Since Mar. 2016 the horizontal grid spacing for ECMWF model is
0.1° x 0.1° lat/long.
As 1° = 60 Nautical Miles = 111 km
0.1° = 11 km -
according to:
https://www.ecmwf.int/en/about/media-centre/news/2016/new-forecast-model-cycle-brings-highest-ever-resolution
"... The new cycle reduces the horizontal grid spacing for high-resolution forecasts from 16 km to just 9 km." -

@dzuremar We are also planning to use ICON data, but Netcdf jar can not open the grib file. What tools or library do you use to handle it?
-
Good job, it sounds great

Wat a nice gift

Is ICON-EU included in the free API?

Just a small comment on model resolution.
In Windy, ICON Europe is presented with a 7km resolution. DWD say it is in fact 6.5km. OK so Windy has rounded its resolution to 7km.
But using the Compare feature the resolution of ICON EU appears to be 6km.Same with AROME resolution, the version used by Windy is 1.3km according to Météo France. It is rounded to 2km in Windy.
But in the same table it is shown with the non-rounded resolution.It would be good to homogenize these values.

@idefix37 Thank you for spotting this, we will try to fix it.

@korina
Windy should use the correct value everywhere : 6.5km for ICON-EU and 1.3km for AROME
