OK so altitude is generally above MSL.
According to your internet articles, METARs and TAFs report cloud cover in AGL (altitude above ground level), is it the same for freezing altitude?

At METARs and TAFs, cloud bases AGL.
At Low Level Significant Weather Charts (SWC),
FRZ LVL in FLIGHT LEVELS (above mean sea level)
(attached SWC for Italy and USA, frz lvl in red)

Thanks for all those informations !
So FRZ level above ground, as shown on Windy maps, is not a need for aviation.
I do not see the advantage of FRZ level above the ground specially because of the low ground altitude resolution in a global weather forecast mapping like Windy.
FRZ altitude above the sea level should be more convenient.

windy visualizes meteorological parameters provided by models.
ECMWF provides the parameter "Zero degree level (DEG0) ".
This parameter is counted from 'surface' .
This one is available, so this one is provided.

OK I understand. But in this case, it should be better to call it Freezing Height or Freezing Level rather than Freezing Altitude. Don’t you think so?

Hi. Im a glider pilot. And we travel for long distances.
Love the graphics in the app
A thernal forecast would be nice. Like RSPA.
And a wave forecast for wave flying.

                    Hi Guys. Stellar app!
Three elements are essential to planning my missions are: Wind, waves and tide.
The first two Windy provides without peer.
The last has to be sought elsewhere.
Any chance of building in some tide charts?

I took a look through the available ECMWF NWP datasets and one field caught my attention......"simulated satellite data "CLBT".
I have seen this field displayed before and it looks pretty cool, an IR or Water vapour satellite picture simulated through NWP cloud output.

                      see example:
                      alt text

*Simulated infra-red and water vapour images for geostationary satellites Simulated satellite images are generated from the model forecast fields using the same radiative transfer algorithm (RTTOV) as in the ECMWF operational data assimilation. The forecast brightness temperature can then be used to produce pictures equivalent to the infra-red and water vapour images available from geostationary satellites. The model-simulated satellite images are now produced for leads up to five days.

These products display cloud-related fields from the model in a format that is very familiar to forecasters, that they are used to interpreting, and that can easily be compared to actual satellite imagery. The user may find that interpretation can be aided by using browser tabs to toggle between the WV and IR products.

IR (infra-red channel) The simulated infra-red images are overlaid with the forecast 850 hPa wet-bulb potential temperature field, commonly used to identify fronts. This helps the forecaster to distinguish, for example, frontal cloud from cloud arising from convective activity (for the user, the spatial variability of precipitation is very different in these two situations). Other cloud types will also be recognisable.

WV (water vapour channel) The simulated WV images generally focus on the upper troposphere, and have been overlaid with mean sea level pressure to highlight connections with the surface. The dynamical forcing mechanisms responsible for cyclogenesis can often be apparent on these plots. Convective development related to potential instability - where dry air overruns a front for example - can also show up.*

This would be my request!!! Thx.

                        Tide chart and water temp.

Living on the Outer Banks requires a keen interest in the weather. Where I live I get flooded many times per year so I'm always flipping through many weather apps to get all the information needed to get the complete picture. This app is fairy new to me and I love it so far, but coastal communities really need tide and water temp data to be fully informed.

I set up an alert for the particular wind direction and strength that affects me, but being able to add a tide state would make it much more accurate. Water temp is less important, but is yet another stat I need another app for. Not sure if tide information would work as a layer, but being able to look it up in the app would be awesome.

Lastly, in the android app I'd love to see a true graph style weather outlook widget. I do like the detailed 4x2 widget, but I just can't read the tiny numbers when it doesn't contrast with the background colors. A graph is just so much easier to digest quickly. I still keep my weatherunderground 2x2 widget (with chart) on my home screen for quick weather glances, I just wish it had an added wind graph line for strength and arrows at the bottom like your widget, and it would be almost perfect. So for now I keep your widget, the Wunderground widget, and the androtide widget to get my complete picture at a glance. For further detailed information I open your app. It's not even close.

Thanks for the great app and site!

@malecky ....this is a useful suggestion. Would provide a means of verifying the NWP output through overlaying NWP cloud/wind/RH fields over satellite imagery at coincidence time steps. NICE!

I come back with my proposal to include "model's orography"
                              as I explained here

                              https://community.windy.com/topic/4513/what-elevation-for-spot-forecasts

As I know it is included in ECMWF's dataset 1, available to you.
                              Name:orography
                              Symbol: Z
                              ΙD: 129

Thanks for the info! Still learning the app and completely missed the sea temp, which makes me wonder if I'm missing something with the "wind, waves, swell" map you posted. I see it gives current conditions of wave height (and future predictions), but is there any place it shows actual tide times?

                                Thanks!

I took a look at the Flight tracker example listed in https://api.windy.com/myapps/59c3714a534c3d3051e047c4

The flight tracking data from OpenSky is limited over Aust and New Zealand. Could someone with coding skills look into accessing FlightAware data to include in the Flight Tracker API?

A 'TEMSI' like display for pilots :-) some layer that somehow summarizes and highlights all kind of dangers for flights.

First of all: What a great website, keep up the good work!

It would be nice to have a Aurora overlay.
Data is available at NOAA: https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/aurora-30-minute-forecast

                                        And additional for stargazing/night photography:
Multiple data sources might be combined to a Aurora + Clouds + Day/Night + Lightpolution overlay.

If the page automatically refreshed that would be fantastic. Nothing more annoying that watching all my other weather websites stay up to date but this one I have to manually refresh.
