Getting historical data ?????

Hello - hoping some experts here might help me in my quest for online historical weather data...I'm primarily interested in in simple historical temperature and rainfall data for specific geographical areas from the beginning of records - in a format that is accessible and understandable to the average non-technical, non amateur-meteorologist type person...lists would be the ideal. My goal is to do my own very basic climate research. I definitely am willing to go technically deeper if that I need to, if that basic information could be precisely located.

I was looking for historical temperature and rainfall data anywhere online - going back as far in time as possible (the beginning of records)

@blessdog https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/data-access/model-data/model-datasets/global-forcast-system-gfs You can check ftp servers maybe you can find some needed data
