I just read about the rapid change in the North Pole temperature recently and it seems to coordinate time wise with an unusual weather pattern here in Southern California specifically in San Diego, CA where I live. We have been in a quite chilly weather pattern for over 10 days with no end in site. I know I won't get any sympathies but we have seldom been above 60F (15.5C) for the past 10 days. We should be at least 60F+ (15.5C) and usually 67F-72F (19.4C-22.2C) this time of year. Our overnight lows have been in the upper 30s to low 40s (3.3C to 5.5C) throughout this time. We even had a 32F (0C) one morning in my neighborhood. If this was the last week of December and/or first week of January, this wouldn’t be unusual weather. But it is nearly March. I hope the already budding roses outside don't get damaged. I don't claim to understand global patterns of weather but when I saw the report of the extreme cold and snow in Europe and surrounding areas, I started wondering if our weather is related to the North Pole temperature rise also.

A cut-off low over your area, "soaks" cold air from NW USA and SW Canada
resulting unusual low temps. in your area.

I don't think it has to do with the Sudden Stratospheric Warming happened Feb. 10th
resulting arctic NE'ly winds over Europe.

Temp. -30C at 500 hPa (18.000 ft high) is realy low for locations at this latitude.
