Bouvet Island
-
Remote uninhabited island located in the subantarctic area of the South Atlantic, and a possession of Norway. There is/was an automated weather station on the island, but how are the daily conditions forwarded and made available to the rest of the world??

Interesting question!
I think you must ask the Norwegian Meteorological Institute
https://www.met.no/en/contact-us
or these people: https://www.bouvetdx.org/our-team/ -
... also http://www.npolar.no/en/bouvetoya/
-
... according to NASA https://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/project/misr/gallery/bouvet_island
"An automated weather station was established in 1977." -

@meteo-gr
I have seen photos of the construction of the weather station, but I understand the station may have suffered massive damage due to the storms and extreme weather conditions on the island.
-
@meteo-gr
I contacted the Norwegian Polar Institute yesterday about my request and am waiting for a reply. Thanks again for your suggestions.

Hope you'll share with us their reply! -
@gkikas-lgpz I cut/paste their response. Links provide lots of photos and other info. Good luck!!
*****Photos of the AWS itself are hard to find. It is vaguely visible in the top picture at http://www.npolar.no/no/nyheter/2014/2014-02-10-ny-feltstasjon-bouvet.html, at the back of the station building. Otherwise, see

@ejasco42
Very interesting! Thank you! -
@gkikas-lgpz I cut & paste all the links that were sent to me, but I don't know if you got them all. But according to the Polar Institute, the entire weather station has been swept away due to earthquake and violent weather!!
-
@ejasco42
I got'em all! Thx -
@gkikas-lgpz The fact that Bouvet is located in such an isolated part of the planet is what attracts so many people, and to learn as much as possible about the island. In reality there's nothing there, except seals and penguins and sea birds!! Amateur Ham radio clubs will embark on expeditions to Bouvet every few years to transmit from there. I always look for new photos from there. Still don't understand how weather data is gathered from Bouvet if the weather station is no more!! Where does Windy.com get it from??
-
@ejasco42
Please could explain why you consider that Windy gather weather data from Bouvet Island. I do not see any data from this place on Windy. -
These figures are just analyse and forecast from the ECMWF numerical weather model.
-
Sorry, I didn't know those figures were from a weather model and not actual readings. Learn something new every day!!
