Android screen corruption (HTC1 device)

Until about 1 week ago, everything was fine with the display on Windy on my HTC1 device.
It now displays the maps with a 'chequered' appearance - see screenshot.
I have cleared the cache and re-installed the app to no avail. Any ideas?
