Android app default map layer.
-
Could you please include on option to change the default map layer on startup of the Android app ? Currently it always starts on the Wind layer however I don't really use that one and would prefer if I could choose my own default layer when the app opens.
-
No, because this is Windy.. Not rainy or radary 😃
-
Yes, I understand the name of the app however with many other non-wind related layers in the app it immediately broadens the scope of the whole thing beyond just it's name. If you can't have a default option for whatever reason then how about just allowing the app to remember the last used layer.

No..again..it's windy..and windy want, that you see wind first.
-
Wow okay, love the arrogance. Was just a suggestion mate. In that case, going along with your summation of my question the app should really have all the non-Wind related layers removed and just show the wind only
-
Sorry Orrcra, I'm with Windy here. I fail to see the logic. Once in the app any layer of weather you want is just a click away. Having one layer of another would save you home much time? Half a second? Sheesh!
-
@theaudiman Yes, that seems like a really basic feature to not have to reset the "view" you want.
-
@Tomber42 you are quite cocky and your attitude could def use a bit of adjusting. Since windy now has the option for people to donate to keep you guys up and running, I would suggest you perhaps start listening to what your paid users want. Just a thought!!

Open Android device Settings.
Enter the Apps menu (sometimes called Application Manager).
Swipe over to the All apps list.
Scroll down and tap on Waze.
Tap Open by default.
Tap Clear defaults if any exist, then tap Open supported links and choose the relevant option: Open in this app. Ask every time.
Here are contents about how to use the program to toggle the map layer:

That option would be much appreciated. I really don't see what your problem with having it is. Make it part of expert settings or hide it well, but not have it at all? Why? Sincerely, a supporting user.

So, instead of adding a simple, and clearly desired feature (this is "Your Feedback and Suggestions" after all and this issue comes up so frequently) you decide to repeat over and over again your mantra. What a wise decision!

These are links from only 3 of 30 (!) pages of search results for "deafult" (not all concerning the default view to be fair, though). If that doesn't show that the users of this app would greately appreciate this feature , I don't know what is.
Plese note: I have refrained from using the word 'want' or 'require' instead, I know how the developers hate it. -

I came to the forums searching for the way to do this. Because it's such a basic function, I thought I just had to be missing something. Had there not been this thread, I would be making the request. (I would also ask to be able to save a zoomed view as the initial area of coverage.)
I am a ham radio operator and a registered NWS weather spotter volunteer here in the mountains of Colorado. While the wind information is helpful, flash floods and hail are the largest dangers, and radar is essential for tracking the fast-moving storms that produce them. Lightning-strike information helps us to determine if outdoor antenna disconnection may becone necessary, and make arrangements for alternate communications.
If the devs would like to stay true to the "Windy" name, why not open the app to the wind page, and then go to the user's desired startup view after a 3-second delay?
Thanks for your consideration.
-
@Tomber42 I would also really appreciate this feature. Pleeease O:-)
-
I also agree there should be a way to change it. I personally watch the wind very rarely because there isn't much wind here. It may be 1 sec but opening multiple times a day and knowing that it could be just one option away to make it default, it is just extra hussle. Keep up the good work!

The desktop version of windy.com allows you to change the default layer
The Android widget allows you to change the default layer
Why wouldn't the Android app allow you to change the default layer? -
I am too voting here for the ability to change default startup layer. App functionality has surprised above and beyond its name and original intention. I think it is time to stop being stubborn and move on with natural organic growth of it. Thanks, Alex

Just for the record - I have just updated Windy app on Android to latest version and it is now possible to change default layer. Wow, such a welcoming improvement. Thank you so much Windy team for this functionality. With Gratitude, Alex
