<![CDATA[Windy is the first weather service in the world to globally forecast thunderstorms]]>We are proud to announce that we are now able to forecast Thunderstorms, which is a map layer created as a combination of Rain and Lightning density.

Many efforts have resulted in lightning density forecast by ECMWF – which is very accurate. Kudos to all the guys in London and Reading who did a great job. Technical description is here.

I have to mention that blitzortung provides observations (real time data)
while windy provides forecast data.

I hope (someday) blitzortung will share their data with windy.

There's a project that's been there for years called Blitzortung.org

It's a community of internationally based electromagnetic discharge detectors (lighting sensors).

it might be a good idea to join forces with them.
