What does ECMWF, GFS, ICON, NEMS mean and how they differ?

@alina-morgan
May be you know what is a forecast model, but it could be useful to refer to this article:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmospheric_modelThe 4 models you have listed are those available in your area:
- ECMWF in fact is not a model. It is the European Center for Medium-range Weather Forecast which provide a model considered as the best global model (with global coverage). Its resolution is 9km. It is the default model used by Windy.
- GFS is the global model of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (USA) with a resolution of 23km.
- ICON is a German regional model of the DWD with a resolution of 7km.
- NEMS is an American model modified by Meteoblue of Switzerland for a better adaptation to the mountain areas. Its resolution is 4 to 12km.
You find additional information if you click on a location to open the meteogram and chose « Compare »
