AIS data from ships

I knew that already. Thanks

@tassosmavr
Windy is a weather forecast app. If you want it to be in addition a tracking app for boat, aircraft and road traffic, I am afraid it will become very slow. It’s important to keep it fast. But developers may have a different opinion of this one. -
It was just a suggestion. If it is not possible, all good. You could for example select or deselect the ais data as it is with all the layers that you don’t use (or use) so it would not be slow.

i think with aishub.net and the windy leflet api you could write an application
-
Do they have Free API?
-
Guys on autumn I will have 14 days free time for some programming. If you negotiate API access from them I can write this.
-
Marinetraffic.com is only provider with decent world-wide coverage, but their API is really expensive.
Free providers don't have enough coverage to be useful. I doubt it is worth effort to add AIS data to Windy.com main app.
In my opinion Windy should stay focused on weather data.
Maybe users who want AIS data can asks Marinetraffic/Vesselfinder to use Windy API or write their own app with Windy API.// I have used Marinetraffic API, it worked great for tracking boats near shore, but for 20 boat it was around 200EUR month. If Satellite AIS data is needed then price is much-much higher.

@ivo said in AIS data from ships:

Do you mean aishub? Not really free.. But they have an api, http://www.aishub.net/api, they also provide aggregated raw AIS nmea data as TCP Stream..
... If you share at least one ais station with them...
You could setup an Ais Station for Prague...it would be the first Aishub Station in
Czechoslovakia 😁 -
OK, message rcvd
