I set all settings
to what we use in the US, but it doesn't let me save them.

Have done the settings adjustment in the mobile app or on the destop webpages? It’s better to do them in windy.com, they will be saved in the cloud and automatically applied to the mobile app. -
I did the settings in Windy.com, but there is no save button and even though the detaild look to be changed...they aren't when I look st the various weather screens.

Yes there is no save button, the changes are automatically saved in the cloud. -

If your settings are not saved, it could be, as @TheRadarGuy explained, « if you use incognito mode or private mode in your browser, then the cookies needed to save your settings won't save. So the next time you launch Windy, the settings will revert to default »
So you must accept cookies with Windy. -
Rain is still given in mm. I would want inches.
