Hurricane Florence wind speeds
-
I was wondering if you are able to access historical data, particularly for Hurricane Florence.
I looked at the surface wind speeds being shown on Windy compared to the Official NOAA wind speed, when it was called a cat4 Hurricane. NOAA showed 120Kts, while Windy showed 90kts - a big difference, but maybe Windy was more accurate considering it was down to a cat1 when it reached land?Is there any way to go back and compare the wind speeds reported by Windy V NOAA?

There is no possibility to get back any historical data on Windy.
Then, it must be underlined that the NOAA/NHC hurricane predictions are based on « Sustained Winds » which are the averaged wind speed on 1 minute (as used by the Saffir-Simpson scale)
The Wind layer on Windy from the ECMWF is calibrated on averaged wind on 10 minutes.
For the same wind, the speed measured on 1min. is roughly 30% higher than the speed measured on 10min.
