Windy offers Sounding Forecast
-
@gkikas-lgpz Exactly, it is warning, that in such cases the sounding can be misleading.
The biggest problem is in mountainous regions - like in Greece in this picture:
-
@tz ... I've only really used SkewT professionally with Stuve taking a little getting used to.
-
@aadhaar I agree with you. It is quite difficult to guess the current situation in an area in windy. There are some companies that provide current data for many locations. Windy should include this thing and display with the observation time. This would help us very much as some of the times at a particular location in windy, we see that it's raining there, whereas in reality there exists a clear sky.

bellissimo grazie

@ashishweb
windy already provides realtime weather observations for many locations.
e.g. for airports, click on the airplane symbol -
I like it. Great!!!

Excellent work. Great value to the people! Thank you for your dedicated job.
-
Awesome!!
-
Thanks and do continue to improve this web system! Looking forward to more features to come :)
-
@chobotnatec I didn't notice those grey lines in the beginning, thank you for the hint. However, more of them would come in handy to estimate the instability at other levels than the surface.
-
Sounding forecast does not work for me. All I get by right clicking is the usual forecast wind SPEED for a point on Earth; no sounding forecast.

This is awesome, but what would be even better, and really, really valuable as a next feature would be hail and near-term hail forecasts and warnings. It seems like there may be some model development needed (especially going forward), but just integrating the already-existing lightning and radar data to display hail presence and near-term probability would be a huge win.

@ivo said in Windy offers Sounding Forecast:
Air sounding, sounding forecast or skew diagram is here (there is plenty of names for it). So far we support only
ecmwf
but other models will be supported too. Just click with right mouse button on a map and use link in context menu (long tap on mobile will do).Developed by our soaring pilot & programmer @TZ so enjoy. And BTW works on mobile device too.

Fantastic thank you

Very nice. Needing help bring my 3D globe up.
-
@raymondpaul - Look elsewhere in the discussion board. Windy got rid of it completely.

Thanks

I love it!
I'm a paraglider pilot myself, I use windy.com a lot for preparation (figuring out where to go to fly really) but missed skew-t , B/S ratio, updraft velocity, top of usable lift. Great to get skew-t out of ECMWF that model is awesome! It would be really nice to get HTOL (top of lift) as well, around here in the West that's usually more interesting than LCL as it's so dry here ...
In that picture, top of lift is probably going to be at that inversion at ~3000ft.
The zoom feature is also very appreciated to see details close to the surface like that. -
@ivo Thank you for your attempts
