I work in the competitive sailing industry. We process grib files with a number of weather routing tools to find the optimum course. I believe that if windy implements a grib download interface you get the buy-in not only from sailing but also shipping industry in general. I can assist as I have a great experience on this subject.

If you are thinking about using grib file from the Windy default model, it will not be possible due to licence agreement with ECMWF:

Then GFS grib files are widespread, free and available with different viewers with routing feature that you know already.
