Innacurate Wind in Firefox
-
Hello - I'm seeing inaccurate wind speeds and animation in one particular profile in Firefox for Windows (66.0b4). When I load a clean Firefox profile, everything works properly, but I can't stop using the profile where I'm experiencing the bug. I've tried disabling all add-ons, toggling all relevant settings, clearing cookies and the cache, and using a Private Window but the problem persists. No errors in the console. Happy to provide more information if useful.
Edit: I'm also experiencing this issue on https://www.windfinder.com, so it must be something common to both.
Steps to reproduce:
- Open Firefox
- Open Windy
- Select wind layer
-
Ok, having spent more time troubleshooting, I believe the steps to reproduce are as follows:
- Have a wide-gamut monitor
- Create a custom color profile for the monitor and have Windows use that profile
- Set gfx.color_management.mode in Firefox to option 1. (The default is 2.)
- Continue with steps in previous post
That's a pretty narrow set of circumstances, but maybe someone else can reproduce.
Anyway, by making some tweaks, I think I have it working now.
Thanks!

I've been experiencing this issue too in Firefox with all of your steps above, but with a typical sRGB monitor (Dell U2415). This seems like quite a messy issue; I'm filing a bug report with Mozilla.

@ascom Would love to see the bug report you file!
Thanks

same problem here, for the last few weeks.
standard firefox on a multitude of windows PC's. Tried restarting firefox without addons, but the problem persists.
Also experience issues with windfinder.com

Does this then mean that the problem is with Firefox, not with Windy? Or?

Did you wind up filing this bug report?
Thanks

This problem is still not solved until today. Running Firfox 97.0 on latest Windows 10.
The problem occurs not only with thw wind layer, but with any other layer too.Any ideas from the devs?

I am using Windy on Firefox 97.0 (32-bit) on Windows 7 Ultimate and it works normally.
-
@mopperle Hello, what kind of problem are you having? If you have any special settings within the browser, then it may cause problems.
-
@Nrbelex Just wanted point out that this is still a live bug. Would love to see this fixed so Windy can work well in Firefox for all users.
-
@Nrbelex Hello, you mentioned that if you load Windy in a clean Firefox profile, everything works. Could you please explain what settings you have in your profile? As I mentioned, some settings will cause this kind of behavior.

I'm fairly confident the relevant setting is gfx.color_management.mode.
The default is 2: Color management applied only to tagged image.
I use 1: Full color management.
Full color management (1) is the best setting to ensure Firefox displays colors correctly, particularly when using a wide-gamut monitor. It does, however seem to cause a glitch with the wind layer and many others.
-
@Nrbelex Yes, this color setting actually causes to glitch Windy. I suggest changing the setting or using another browser.

Korina, thanks for the confirmation. Since color accuracy is a priority for me, I have to keep this setting as is, but hopefully Windy will one day be compatible!
Thanks!
