Polar Vortex is a phenomenon in winter, when around North or South pole is polar night with no sunshine. It is created by increased meridional temperature gradient when big temperature differences between the pole and the tropics occur. Westerly winds become stronger and create the Polar Vortex.

Polar Vortex is mainly in the stratosphere where it creates a barrier for winds that tries to reach the pole or tries to get away from the pole.

We already wrote about the Polar Vortex and its connection with the Ozone hole. But what other effects can be seen with it? See the next post!
