      User has gotten to state
      5861-1.jpg
upon which he wishes to return to "now".
Alas there is no "reset" button.
He probably has to manually drag some marker back to the beginning.
No I am not sure what icon you should use for "reset to now".
(Seen on Desktop. Haven't looked into app.)

You don't need to drag the slider but can simply click on the vertical red line (on Sat 11) which indicates 'now'.

Having a dedicated reset button won't save you any mouse clicks but it might add further clutter to the screen.

In effect the vertical red line is already a dedicated reset button :)

OK. (But that tiny red bar is an extremely small target area and requires precise wrist control to click correctly. Perhaps it could have a larger "target bulls eye circle" overlayed on it for easier clicking, even if it disables clicking of the hour before and after it.)

Also I recall a "three-animal" speed control on other such bars, but not this one. There is no way to slow down the jumps from hour to hour! Let's say I want to have a second look at the sequence... well if I could slow things down I probably wouldn't need a third look too...

Without needing to automatically play the timeline it is instead also possible to advance and return in the timeline using the keyboard arrow keys.

Personally this is my preferred method because it gives me precise control and I can more easily pause or take a second look at certain events.

OK. I thought there were no shortcuts, as SPACE BAR didn't stop or start the animation.

So now that I you suggested there are, I had a look in Hamburger Menu > Help and found
                https://community.windy.com/topic/13/keyboard-shortcuts/4
which proceeded to cause my browser to pull in eighteen Megabytes of .GIFs,
and now I officially know how to
Use the left (←) and right (→) cursor keys to move forward or backward in the timeline.

                Recommendations:

all list shortcuts without downloading images. Also the Maps one says one can hit a key combo to see the list of shortcuts, and the YouTube one mentions SPACE BAR, a good addition.

Windy is an animated weather site. It features a huge amount of visual effects. You can even make your own animations and video clips from Windy visualisations too. It could be possible that Windy isn't the right tool for you if 18MB is overly concerning.

(@jmh2002 A basic browse of https://www.windy.com/ only uses 362 KB, 49 times less than that help article.)

Perhaps, but in any case I am sure many modern internet users will easily be using hundreds of MB, or even multiple GB per day, so relatively speaking I think 18MB is inconsequential in this context.
