Activate Marker Popup from external link

I have a requirement to open the marker popup if a html link is clicked outside of the windy control.

I take it I would have to

• get a reference to the windy control (how to do this?)
• Access the Marker Layer
• Loop all markers until I find the correct one, then fire the popup.

Is this possible?
