Upload, display and share your KML, GPX or GeoJSON on Windy
-
@skor Hi, if you want to use the 'Upload, display and share your KML, GPX or GeoJSON' feature, you need to upload the file into the browser.
-
Yes, thanks i get that part. My problem is that i may not be allowed to share this data. So i'm trying to make sure i prevent it from being uploaded to your server. My thought was to take advantage of the ability that KML provides to use a reference to another file. So if i do that, does that data get loaded into the local memory of your web app? Or does it first upload the data to your server and then download it to the web browser.
-
Or maybe i'm mis-reading your response. when you say " you need to upload the file into the browser." are you saying that even for the lower example above where it indicates "data is private" are you saying that the data is actually uploaded to the server but you are managing permissions such that i am the only one who can see it?
That's what i was trying to avoid if i can. -
@skor Hi, yes, you can choose 'Make data private' option and then it will not be visible for other users.
-
@Korina yes, thanks for the continued quick replies. While I appreciate that option, and i trust you to not intentionally share the data, I'm trying to determine if there is a way to make sure the data isn't exposed if you had a security incident. My thought on how i could do that is by using the KML option to use a reference to the data like this:
Random Placemark Here is some more kml content http://internalServer.corp/more_kml_content.kml once
-
Well, that didn't format like i wanted. let's try a picture:

@trevorgankarch
Sorry but I’m not able to help you on this particular matter. -
Looks great, uploading works, just doesn't sync to the app on my phone (Android)...

Hi, is there a way to color a track on a geojson file with this feature? Is there also a way to have a popup for the track? Thanks!
-
@gdupen Hello, the track colors or pop ups have to be specified in the file already.
-
What do the colors mean on an uploaded gpx track ? It looks like heat colors show climbs, but sometimes I see a long section of cyan -- what does cyan mean ?
Also is there a way to show the track all in red, like on Strava ?
Thanks, Jeff
-
@jbrower I know why now. Cyan occurs if there are GPX format issues, for example floating-point entry of timestamp values. Run a cleaner of some type on GPX files before upload and no problem, color display is normal
Unfortunately, after 3 months, Windy developers don't even seem to know this, or don't care enough to answer, or both

Hello, I don't understand how to display my imported kml on my mobile (android).
It work well on browser version but I don't find on mobile.
Is it possible do display on mobile or is it only on browser ? -
@ATGT691 Hi, uploading these files is available only in our web app.
-
@Suty hello !
Yes and it make sense but once you have uploaded it on computer, the display of kmz should be easier to acces on mobile app.
The only way for the moment is to go on internet app and "windy kmz" , click first link and then it open the kmz menu in windy app.
Why there is no button in the app to acces to it ? -
@ATGT691 Unfortunately, at the moment, there is no feature allowing user to use these files in the mobile app. I can consider this change with colleagues in the future, however, it is not planned now.
-
It would be great to have this available on the mobile app.

@Suty hi yes I made a post about this a few days ago not realizing it was already a topic. Please modify to allow uploads to be viewable on a mobile platform. Thanks.
