Wind speed colour

When zoomed out, wind display on the map seems to correspond to the color chart on the right; but when I zoom in, all wind display animations switch to a light purple color, indicating about 32 knots of wind.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Edit: OK I'm thinking the background colour is the wind speed, not the animation? If so when zoomed in, the background colour disappears entirely so does that only work into a certain zoom level?
