Windy launches Satellite layer

Windy.com & the app continues to get better and better. Thanks for all the hard work from everyone on the Windy team!

UPDATE: we have significantly decreased the time for between the image acquisition and appearing on Windy for GOES 16 & 17 (USA). The waiting time for the newest image was around 40 minutes; now it is only 10. The time shown on Windy is a time when the image acquisition started. The image acquisition takes approximately ten minutes, and the processing and sync between servers are another 15 minutes. Additionally, newly the GOES satellites have 10 minutes steps.

@Shdak63 Hi, we apologize for the situation. Data from Goes satellites was not accessible that time. Now it should be ok.

The satellite layer is much appreciated.
There is probably nothing you can do about it, and it is probably in the source data coming from EUMETSAT, but there is an annoying discontinuity running through the central US.
It kind of degrades the beautiful image. If there is anything that can be done about it I'd appreciate you looking at it at some point.

There is so much already that Windy can do that I have not even found out how to use everything after more than a year following it as it unfolds...
But you know what is the most fun? SHOWING it to people who have not heard of it before! The stunned expressions on peoples faces (especially when they realize it's free) when they see it and find out what they can see with it is always priceless :)

@btschumy Hi, the whole composite is created from multiple images from multiple satellites. This is boundary of two satellite images (from Goes West and Goes East). Infra composite is almost perfect, but visible composite suffers many problems especially due to reflections and refractions of the light. We will focus on this in future, but unfortunately some of these visual artifacts can not be completely removed.

The projections still seem like an issue, the California Channel Islands are also suffering it appears. :(
