Hey, it is possible to retrieve historical data from 2016 onwards. Is there a way to download this data as a ".dat" file for a particular location?

I am slightly confused about access to historical data. Viewing the GA version of your site via FireFox for Windows, i can see the last 12 months of wind data through Tools. When I look at your beta version, I do not see an option for viewing historical wind data. Will the version currently in beta have the ability to view historical data once its released for GA?

what would it take to get historical data? I think that is probably the most interesting aspect of the map. forecasts tend to be only as good as the model's best guess.

if historical data were implemented, it would also be really cool to access some of that data by code. essentially, what I'm saying is perhaps eventually the model could be cloudsourced the researchers interested in that. I'm not totally sure how it could work, but it would be cool to research that and allow a community to grow around the forecasting models.

                        cheers,
                        kenny

@ivo In a day where you can buy a 4 TB USB flash stick there's not enough data?? WindyTy's appeal is nearly 50% due to the ability to view historical data. That is now gone. Unfortunate.

@jimmyray1972 Historical data uses less than 0.5% of our users.

@ivo It is a pity because historical data a really useful for deciding on sailing routes!

@ivo Even after 1/1/2017, I was able to find data of 2 or 3 weeks ago. Today I try again and it was not possible anymore just clicking in Latter on time line. Is there other way I can find this recent data (max 1 month ago)?

                                    Hello there,

I'm currently planning a sail trip in Mediterranean sea in mid April. Early January I could access data back to 2 years ago at least (IIRC), it's a real shame you ditched that functionality.

@José Hopefully, historical data will be available again later this year (see this thread: http://bit.ly/windytv-historical-data). We had to discard that feature (used by less than 0.5% of our users) because it's maintenance consumed too much of our developers' time (yes, disks are cheap these days, but it's not just about the data storage).

                                        Sorry I missed your reply.
I understand those data and related functionalities aren't exactly free to provide and maintain for a minority of users. I hope you'll find a sustainable business model, your product is awesome.

Dear Ivo, according to what you tell us: "Since programming is you passion you did coded windy.tv just for fun as your pet project".
If this is so, why would you ask if we would be willing to pay for windy.tv? And why do you tell us not to complain? And you post a forum for users to comment. I do not think these are complaints, rather suggestions. And if you want to charge for your page, then do so and we will see ... with sincerity.

@dafonk It's mostly about our lack of (human) resources to maintain that data as explained in this thread.
