How can I access historical data?
-
There are no historical data on Windy.
Windy is run by pilots, kiters, sailors, bikers, so we are focused on now-cast and forecast.
After a lot of thoughts, I have decided (as a founder and main developer) to postpone historical data feature until Windy finds (and develops) a sustainable business model.This can be in any time range from 2018 - ...Stay tuned. We have millions of users, we PAY for some weather data and someone has to pay the bill. -
I need access the data of the years 2012-2013. How can i do it? It´s possible to be available by a link?
-
@alerson We do not have these data
-
@ivo Is there no historical data for 2015? The calendar shows the days but no forecast data is displayed before Jan. 1, 2016.
-
@Escape Maybe bug. Will check
-
@Escape We do not have these data anymore
-
@alerson We never had these data

@ivo
Hey, it is possible to retrieve historical data from 2016 onwards. Is there a way to download this data as a ".dat" file for a particular location? -
@Georg Not possible

I am slightly confused about access to historical data. Viewing the GA version of your site via FireFox for Windows, i can see the last 12 months of wind data through Tools. When I look at your beta version, I do not see an option for viewing historical wind data. Will the version currently in beta have the ability to view historical data once its released for GA?
-
@dgrubman U R right. no history in new version. no disk space for it so far
-
@ivo are you hosted on cloud platform or own servers?
-
@dgrubman hosted & expensive
-
-
if you want, send me your email address; i may be able to help on the infrastructure cost side.

windytycom at gmail.com We need terrabytes of data

what would it take to get historical data? I think that is probably the most interesting aspect of the map. forecasts tend to be only as good as the model's best guess.
if historical data were implemented, it would also be really cool to access some of that data by code. essentially, what I'm saying is perhaps eventually the model could be cloudsourced the researchers interested in that. I'm not totally sure how it could work, but it would be cool to research that and allow a community to grow around the forecasting models.
cheers,

@kennyb Well will you pay us for hosting of terrabytes of data?
-
@ivo In a day where you can buy a 4 TB USB flash stick there's not enough data?? WindyTy's appeal is nearly 50% due to the ability to view historical data. That is now gone. Unfortunate.

@jimmyray1972 Historical data uses less than 0.5% of our users.
