What's the difference between these two temperatures? 41 and 30?

41° is the observed temperature by a weather station. This station is a personal weather station PWS (MADIS network)
30° is the forecasted temperature by ECMWF model.
As you see there is a big gap between these figures. On the diagram, you see the same gap every day (colourful curve vs dashed curve).
But some PWS are quite inaccurate because there are not installed in a right environment. This station in Ipswich town is surrounded by 3 stations showing 28°, 32° and 33°, which are closer to the ECMWF model forecast.
If you switch on diagram to AROME, you see that the gap is reduced because this model takes into account the urban heat island effect.

During heatwave the UHI is more important at night which is not the case of this PWS. It is possible that its temperature sensor is not well protected from sun radiation....BTW it should be a good idea to have the option for switching off all PWS (MADIS and other)

@idefix37 thank you so much for the answer. i was confused a little bit when i saw that place showed 41 and then 42 on that hottest day on July 25, and i was overly excited thinking we broke the UK all-time record of 38.5, but now i see that was not the case. Well, actually on that Thursday we did broke the record eventually, but only at 38.9, which was registered in Cambridge !:0) thanks for clarifying!
