      • Article was updated with the latest weather update by Axel Hackbarth, including a little challenge for you. Watch it below

      photo:Windy.com;desc:TS Chantal approx. at 40.09N, 51.29W, Malizia II with Greta Thunberg on board approx at 42.14N, 38.47W;licence:cc;

      Before you look at the satellite imagery below, where you can see the Tropical Storm Chantal just 700 miles away from the yacht on which Greta Thunberg sails to NY, let me make it clear: If you expect a tabloid-style alarmist kind of story, I will disappoint you. The team are professionals and can cope with the situation.

      Think of it just as a unique opportunity to see TS Chantal and Greta in one picture.

      Actually, here's what Axel told us on TS Chantal:

      Chantal is working very well to our advantage, and we positioned Malizia there to ride the Easterly winds to have a comfortable downwind passage on it's Northern end. We are currently at a separation point, a faster option would go further North, but the safer and more comfortable route a bit further South.

      Here's the satellite loop from 21 August 2019, 8:45 a.m. to 2:35 p.m. UTC. Don't miss the weather update below.

      Also don’t forget to read our previous coverage of Greta’s 3,000 miles long journey, watch the footage of her departure from Plymouth, and check out the Windy founder’s message to Greta here.

      The weather update and the challenge

      Tropical Storm Chantal

      12 hours satellite loops (visible, unenhanced infra, color-enhanced infra+) 21 Aug 2019 4:30 am - 4:20 pm UTC. Track the path of TS Chantal with Windy Hurricane Tracker.

        Your article gives this information a sensational side while the situation is very commonplace. Indeed Chantal is a tropical storm (weakening to a tropical depression). The sustained 1-minute winds are 35kt as shown by NRL (weakening 30kt) in south semi-circle. In north semi-circle winds are very weak as displayed by ECMWF and GFS (they show only 25 kt in south semi-cercle)

        So Chantal is not threatening this boat !

          @idefix37 Totally agree on "the situation is very commonplace". The intention was to debunk the upcoming tabloid news I believe will come sooner or later. And yeah, I did not-so-clear could-be-sensational headline on purpose ;) But the article, far from sensational imho...
