Leonardo DiCaprio shares a map showing the impact of the Amazon wildfires

OK, here we go. Our first ever 100% bragging post here on Windy. It doesn't happen every day that you stumble upon an Instagram post by Leonardo DiCaprio featuring Windy.com.
The famous Hollywood actor posted our CO concentration map, depicting the impact of ongoing Amazon wildfires.
The fact it’s just a regram of the @rainforestalliance' post doesn’t make us any less excited. Right now, his post earned over 2.5 million likes (check out the actual count on Instagram). Also check out the pictured CO concentration map including forecast here.
Anyway, we don't know whether DiCaprio himself uses Windy or not.

@pavelneuman ain't it funny how "actors" ACT like they KNOW SO MUCH!

https://www.france24.com/en/20190823-amazon-fires-how-celebrities-are-spreading-disinformation I would check the sources before I put too much faith in what celebrities post about the amazon fires. Some are posting stories that are 16 years old.

DiCaprio can't read maps. He has no science education... just a map someone gave him to read.

and the idiot of the year oscar goes to....leonardo dicaprio...kkkk

@reloader762 Not that big deal, just the pictures. It's pretty common practice in media, to use illustrative pictures, instead of images of the actual event. I don't like it, but I wouldn't call it "spreading disinformation". IMHO it's a good thing when celebrities use their huge media power, making more people aware of the problem and helping NGOs to fund their missions, as in DiCaprio case.

While I agree we need to be nicer to the planet, it's hard to take lifestyle advice from celebrities and ultra rich people who have an exponentially larger carbon footprint than the average person. Private jets, yachts, and owning massive mansions is about the worst thing you can do from an environmental perspective. Maybe Leo should just enjoy his lifestyle and be quiet. Take a pass on preaching to everyone else about CO2 and fossil fuels.

In the space of evidence-based politics, Mr DiCaprio is not exactly my first goto-source of knowledge, given that for him foehn is already a consequence of GW:
maybe we can leave out the activism space here? it permeates through any channel conceivable anyway.

@mhaberler said in Leonardo DiCaprio shares a map showing the impact of the Amazon wildfires:
source of knowledge
It's not about the knowledge (science is way to go), it's about the media power, something in which the Hollywood actors have better skills than scientist imho.
That is just a part of the whole puzzle, not the most important, but still important one

Mr DiCaprio should watch the following video, to gain a better undestanding of Brazil's environmental policies, which was delivered by Dr. Evaristo Miranda of Embrapa. Considering he dated many years Ms Giselle Bündchen, I am sure he understand Portuguese:
