- Update: Lorena strengthened to a hurricane as it's approaching the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula. At 6:00 a.m. MDT (12:00 p.m. UTC), the center of Hurricane Lorena was near 22.7N, 109.0W, moving toward the west-northwest near 9 mph (15 km/h). A turn toward the northwest is expected on Saturday. Maximum sustained winds are near 75 mph (120 km/h), the estimated minimum central pressure is 989 mb (29.20 inches). A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Baja California peninsula from La Paz to Puerto Cortes. A Hurricane Watch is in effect for east coast of the Baja California peninsula north of La Paz to San Evaristo. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for east coast of the Baja California peninsula north of San Evaristo to Loreto, west coast of the Baja California peninsula north of Puerto Cortes to Puerto San Andresito (Adv 12A, nhc.noaa.gov)
- Update: At 3:00 p.m. UTC (10 a.m. CDT), the center of Lorena, weakened back to Tropical Storm status with max. sustained winds of 70 mph (113 km/h), was located near 20.30N, 105.54W.

- Update: Lorena becomes a Hurricane, increasing its sustained winds to near 75 mph (120 km/h). At 10:00 p.m. CDT (3:00 a.m. UTC), the center of Hurricane Lorena was located near 18.7N, 104.7W, moving toward the northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h), and the forward speed is expected to decrease a bit on Thursday. Lorena is expected to move near or over the southwestern coast of Mexico within the hurricane warning area tonight and Thursday. Lorena is then expected to move west-northwestward away from the west-central coast of Mexico late Thursday and Friday and approach southern Baja California Sur Friday night and Saturday. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles (30 km) from the center, and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km). Same as hyperactive Atlantic, the eastern Pacific basin is also experiencing higher than usual tropical activity during the peak of the hurricane season. Tropical Storms Lorena and Mario formed on Tuesday, joining Tropical Storm Kiko.
While Mario and Kiko are expected to remain over the open waters, Tropical Storm Lorena is strengthening as it approaches the coast of southwestern Mexico, bringing a dangerous threat of flash flooding an mudslides.
A hurricane warning was issued by local authorities for part of southwest Pacific coast of Mexico. The heaviest rainfall is expected in the states of Guerrero, Michoacan, Colima and Jalisco near the coast.
Lorena is then predicted to move west-northwestward away from the western coast of Mexico late Thursday and Friday and approach the southern Baja California Peninsula Friday night and Saturday.
A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Punta San Telmo to Cabo Corrientes. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Zihuatanejo to Punta San Telmo, and Cabo Corrientes to Punta Mita.
According to NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL Advisory #6, at 4:00 p.m. CDT (9:00 p.m. UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Lorena was located near 17.9N, 104.4W, max. sustained winds near 70 mph (110 km/h), moving toward the northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h).
A slower northwestward motion is expected during the next couple of days. Lorena is expected to move near or over the southwestern coast of Mexico within the hurricane warning area tonight and Thursday.
The center of Lorena is then expected to move west-northwestward away from the western coast of Mexico late Thursday and Friday and approach southern Baja California Friday night and Saturday. Strengthening is forecast tonight, and Lorena is forecast to become a hurricane as it nears the southwestern coast of Mexico.
Additional strengthening is possible when Lorena moves west of the coast of southwestern Mexico.
