Re: What weather stations do you recommend.?
Appreciate that Windy May not want to recommend specific personal weather stations, but would be interested in opinions from the community. Would like to set up a personal weather station that could input to Windy, as there are few near me. Would like something that will allow me to download data and that can take particularly temp readings from several locations around my property. Thanks

RE: Version 43: Introducing the New Features and Enhancements. Tell us what you think!
@afurley like the Radar+ (been usin ga lot since first announced) and am excited to try the route planner enhancements when next at sea. The increased range of models available is great, but is also adding extra chaos to the menu. It would be good to have the ability to customise which are normally shown, in what order, and to determine which is used by default. Thanks!

RE: Save your model each time
@idefix37 ok, thanks, that makes sense

RE: Save your model each time
@idefix37 nice, although unfortunately that doesn't solve the pressure isolines issue - they get reset to Off even using last overlay. Is this using a lot of CPU time or something, because it's something I asked for years ago but it seems apparently difficult to implement?

RE: Map item icons obscured on iphone11
@idefix37 I don't, should I?
In the meantime I discovered the problem is even worse trying to navigate from the weather radar pages.

RE: Map item icons obscured on iphone11
@idefix37 yes, that is a workaround I suppose (you now can see the top 3). It would be better not to have to do that, or to be able to choose the top 3 instead, so you can put less used items there. But thanks for the interim solution.
Any thoughts about the pressure isolines (why they can't be set to come on by default)?

@idefix37 hah, funny, it doesn't show on a screenshot. Here's a photo!

RE: Please add weather fronts (Warmfront and cold front)!!!
@Ondřej-Šutera as a sailor, I would absolutely second including weather fronts. I know they are created by meteorologists, but evidently there are algorithms that can mimic this. This would be an important and persuasive addition. While you are at it, PLEASE allow me to keep the pressure isolines on the map by default. I don't understand why this is not stored in my settings. Thanks

Map item icons obscured on iphone11
Quite like the new interface, having got used to it, but there is an issue on my iphone11 pro: when you pop up the pinned map items/icons the top 3 are hidden behind the notch in the iPhone display that houses the microphone and camera! You can touch the left and right items, but the central one is very difficult to activate. I have tried adding irrelevant items in the top row as spacers, but unfortunately Windy doesn't let me determine the order the items appear (which would be a nice feature). Can this be fixed please? Thanks

RE: Default settings
@korina Not a Premium user but I have been a user since the ‘early days’ and have asked for this before. I concur that the other models are better depending on location and in general, I’m afraid (I’m a European too!), the GFS model, though less precise, is more accurate. The other ‘setting’ which does not appear to be a setting are the pressure isolines, which revert to ‘off’ every time I leave the website, a real pain. But keep up the good work, I love Windy!

Settings Reset
Re: Weather settings always resets
Reviving this because as far as I can see this remains a problem. Despite reassurances in various places that my settings will be saved to the cloud, almost without fail, the pressure isobars - which for me as an 'old guy' are essential to understanding the forecast - have disappeared AND the app been reset to the ECMWF model (GFS in my experience, though less granular, is often more accurate - I'm european in case anyone wants to suggest bias!). No matter my proclivities, the whole point of having an account and logging on is that you get to set it up the way you prefer, otherwise I shouldn't be giving up my personal info.... Would be delighted to see it fixed that no matter what changes I make they get recorded and sustained in my settings. Thanks

RE: Route Planner for iPad
@petra-pik PS the thread above implies you should be able to make the route planner work on the iPad if you use a browser instead of the app? I just tried this using Safari and I can’t see how to access it. Any clues would be appreciated.

RE: Route Planner for iPad
@petra-pik I only just discovered the route planner and it’s brilliant. I am offshore sailor (due to the pandemic I have not been offshore for a year, which is why I only just discovered the route planner) and this is invaluable (I had been asking for it for a while). But to have it work on the iPad app would be even better as the IPad is the absolutely standard interface on many sailing boats (Navionics Boating app, for example, is the standard app for navigation). But anyway, thanks to all involved.

Default settings
I am a registered user and automatically login when using Windy on phone, tablet or desktop. Even so, settings I use in one session do not persist when I next login. In particular, I prefer to have pressure isolines on so that I can easily see weather systems and fronts. Having to reset this each time seems contrary to whole point of logging in!

RE: Ivo's letter: Please donate to keep us going
@Clearphish In the UK we have what is called Gift Aid. If you are donating to an organisation with Charitable Status, you can claim Gift Aid (you have to declare your residency address) and the charity then gets the tax back (https://www.gov.uk/donating-to-charity/gift-aid). I don't know if Windy is operating as a charity (see other post from this morning about Just Giving) but if they were this might apply.

RE: Ivo's letter: Please donate to keep us going
If you have what in UK is called 'charitable status' you could set up a Just Giving (https://www.justgiving.com/) facility so that people can raise money for you by sponsorship (it is fun and makes the sponsoring idea very much easier, even though they do take a cut). I am about to do this for the RNLI in the UK. I would do it for you if you had this facility.

Waves and Currents
Are your wave models taking into account surface currents? I am about to sail a 47ft sloop from La Reunion to Cape Town and a serious consideration is the Agulhas current running down the East coast of South Africa from ~NNE to SSW. This reaches up to 2.5-3 knots and is reputed to exacerbate (severely) the steepness and height of the waves when the wind is contrary (S - WSW). Are any of your models taking this into account and, if so, which is going best to show this?
Thanks for continuing to do an amazing job!
In passing, any chance you might do an app which can pickup server data sent by email over a satellite phone? Windy is great, but the bandwidth required is huge and impractical to pick up offshore.

RE: Windy launches Route Planner
I think most of this has been said but just to reiterate, from a sailing perspective there is little point having the forecast along the entire route for one moment in time as clearly, for a journey of any length, the situation will have changed substantially by the time the boat (moving at 6-7kts) has got there! So it would be really nice if 'boat mode' by default showed the predictions along the route given a specific boat speed.
That said, I have now got the hang of the fact that the weekdays along the top of the table do not relate to the weather beneath (this was very confusing) and I can make predictions by shifting the bar around. It's a bit cumbersome, but nonetheless worthwhile and helping me guide my friends across the Indian Ocean.
The last request is that the routes be save-able! (if they are already I have not seen how?). It is a pain to have to keep re-entering multiple waypoints everytime I come back to the app!
Thanks for everything, this is the most brilliant weather program in existance!

RE: Windy launches Route Planner
PS I also just saw the discussion of changing the forecast as time progresses. This is definitely important. If youc an do this you are getting close to software like Weathertrack and Predictwind (the latter is brilliant but expensive).
